I had the feeling that we are living in a period which could be, for musicians, a good occasion to try new ways of expression, without necessarily giving up to their personal ideas and without following servilely market rules to survive.
I don't know exactly why i had this feeling, perhaps the remark of a new strength of independent labels or perhaps the idea of a public more prepared to accept new proposals; but...........speaking with some friends ( Maurizio and Paolo of Dune ) this feeling has lost his evidence and " many doubts obscured " the optimistic conception that was lying under it.

What do you think about it ? By N.A.S.

I had a feeling, but............

In biggest European towns record shops are full of people buyng every kind of music. I am not talking about the Virgin megastores. There is a lot of small specialized shops. But the true question is : Do the people love "maranza"?* In the English charts of this week, beyond to the usual garbage and to the clones of the beat era, you could see at the top the Prodigy. Despite I don't like them, I could not say they do any maranza*. The cultural Italian industry actually is suffering from the general problems regarding the whole Italian small industry: higt management costs for bureaucracy, taxes, disorganizzation, corporative management of trade. Mr. Veltroni deceives himself to find a solution distributing indiscriminate financing. This is the old Christian Democratic habit inherited from the Fascism: To give some money to guilds and lobbyes, so nothing changes. The "maranza*" music industry and cunning businnes men of the Eurobureaucracy will take advantage of it. But illegality and disparity will continue to increase by attacks to the copyright law, concerts paiement in black money, recording piracy ecc. because, from time immemorial, unfair laws increase corruption and let down the people civilization degree (that in Italy is already very low). The cultural Italian industry needs more business freedom. To get in to the indipendent music businnes you need disproportionate capitals. This is the only reason because the must of the Italian recording labels is: "people love maranza*".*maranza= very bad and trivial music

Hi here's my vibe,

your feeling is probably the most important thing in music(so keep it!!!:)), after all it's all a matter of communication. You have to say what you have to say, no matter the price...you'll say it with your music or maybe in your dreams... The thingi personnaly don't like in this business is the fact that everyone seems to talk about money succes all the time. From my point of view there is more deeper and essential reasons to do music. Since the beginning of human kind people needed music to harmonise, to get together, to enjoy life or even to scare people that were not "believing" enough... Today music is really there for the same reasons but since our capitalist system have almost taken over human values it seems sometime in the mouth of certain business people that only sells and money matters. This is not the futur, communication is...let the public decide a let the passion flow!!! For evolution of imagination...best regards

Dear N.A.S. (and all the others),This is trying to give an answer.

I think that this one is a good moment for creativity and "reaction power" in music,

and I see (not so clearly) that people musical taste is going in new directions, in Italy too,but I think that the MUSIC BUSINESS is too lazy and old-oriented to react.

So the great labels prefer to support expensive lies.

If we want to encourage music and creativity we got to work hard and sacrifice some things:

infact I think that anything in music is too much expensive: concerts, artists, records, and so on.

Excuse my terrible English.

bye everybody, hope to read you soon.
