LIVE @ LINK

As ever, Link has offered us another wonderful night into the realm of electronic music. The opening set has been performed by "Die Larm", presenting us their "brain-devasting" sounds, that well keep up in the international electronic scene and that stand out even with the most famous english and german bands. Filled out with low, mid and high frequencies, we also met one of the most interesting duos of the moment: Mika Vainio and Ilpo Vaisanen. And what we're giving you now is a full featured interview with the two finnish brains behind these incredible sounds that can only be described with the band's name: Panasonic. We catched them after their 50-minutes set and they kindly answered all the questions we made, surprising us not only with the music, but also with their way of thinking. Here is it.

INTERVIEW

Q: How was playing in Italy, did you find any kind of difficulties ? Many people think that Italy is not so well organized under many points of view.

A: No, we didn't find any problems playing in Italy. We were surprised of the amount of people that came to our concerts and helped us in many ways.

Q. Do you have any concept before composing your music or you follow the inspiration of the moment?

A. Both of them. Sometimes we do follow the inspiration and sometimes we have an initial concept.

Q. Your music and your sound suggest sometimes images of your country (Finland), and of indefinite northern landscapes.

Do you think the environment has influenced your music?

A. Yes, we can say that we have been influenced by finnish landscapes, in the sense that the enviroment always influences music, but we think that our music comes from ourselves, more than from the environment.

Q. Do you have a website?

A. No, we don't have it.

Q. What do you think about the means and ways of communicating through InterNet?

A. We don't know much about it, we don't even have a computer. Maybe there's too much talking about InterNet and too much overhipe about it.

Q. What do you think about InterNet and music, no copyright, no laws?

A. Good thing.

Q. It seem that drum 'n bass, jungle and other phenomen hasn't influenced your music?

A. No, we don't find particularly interesting at the moment, something yes, We're not so much into techno .There are more interesting things elsewhere, like experimental electronic music, for ex. Neuton.

Q. How did you get to use the machines, how did you get to have them?

A. The machines have been especially designed for the performances by a friend of ours, who is an electronic engineer. Until this summer we have been using only analogue machines. Now we're using a digital sampler, so our music sounds a bit different; it has helped us a lot with the structure and we have new possibilities with the sounds.

Q. Do you use any sequencer?

A. Yes, because the sampler carries a sequencer, and it is particularly useful for our live performances.

I want to add also that I know there are different point of view between digital and analogic machines, but the most important thing for us is the sound, no matter if it comes from analog or digital machines.

Q. How happened that you worked at a project with Bjork ?

A.(Mika) She listened to my work, and she liked it and contacted me; I was very surprised about it.

Q. Are you planning collaborations with other artists?

A. Yes. We have a project with Alan Vega ( Suicide) and Einsturzende Neubauten.
